So we released Dinowaurs. We made a call to Joe. Then we went out to eat some important sandwiches (more on that later). When we got back, the Dinowaurs rating had dropped on kong considerably. There is always a bit of a honeymoon with these real-time ratings, but we were hoping it’d be above the beta score (3.99). Over the next few days it continued to drop while I obsessively checked it.
But that’s just a score, what’s really interesting to us is the polarity of the feedback in our comments section. Some people really love the game, others absolutely hate it. When it comes to competitive multiplayer games, better love and hate than apathy. It’s so polarized that often times you’ll see comments right next to each other butting heads.

Admittedly, the majority of the comments are purely negative, which is another interesting little data-point here. That’s in contrast with a rating of 3.78 from 5405 users (as of 2/23/2009) that appears to be more positive than negative. It seems the vocal minority is very angry about the balance of Dinowaurs. Sorry vocal minority! We recommend some target practice and a healthy dose of The FAQ.

February 24th, 2009 at 7:42 AM#1 Develop a community where players are rewarded (by the meta game) for hating on games (since games are developed by outsiders this is unimportant).
#2 Release game that you have developed or helped develop/finance to this community.
#3 profit.
What are the odds?
Kongretards FTL!
I remember kongs first attempt to create content for their audience, now deleted, ho ho ho.

February 25th, 2009 at 8:07 AMAre you able to see how many guests play the game? and for a how long? Like me, I dont have a kongregate account, so cant leave feedback/score. Those scroing systems is totaly inacurate (it’s like going to rottentomatoes for feedback on a movie), 3.78 -I bet it’s higher than that. Everyone I’ve sent it to say they like it, and none have an account. Keep up the good work!

February 26th, 2009 at 2:20 PMPeople who hate (or really love) a game are much more likely to post their feedback. Combine that with the average age of the Flash gamer, and you have a recipe for total commenting madness.
The trick, I think, is to not lose focus on the people that actually LIKE the game. Focusing on ones like “this game is fail 0/5!@#!@$” can blind you to all the positive feedback.
It’s always interesting to me how much more quickly people make decisions about the quality of games when they don’t have to spend any money to purchase them. I would be curious to see what would happen if Kongregate charged a small amount of money/kreds/etc just to *play* a premium game. Would people be willing to invest a bit more time learning the game in order to justify their investment? Would the ratings be higher?

March 2nd, 2009 at 2:49 PMI’ve played a couple of ranked matches om kongregate. I like the game, nice mix of skill and strategy.
Still some negative points;
-There seems to be a lot of lag during the game.
-The auto-marching is kinda crappy;
I was a level 5 matched againts a level 22
(he also bought/ obtained all the upgrades witch made it impossible for me to win)
Boring 4 both players cause its more an execution the upgrade should be more a part of the balance in auto-matching.
